Typically as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve I close my eyes and make a wish for something I really want to achieve in the next year. I’m very grateful to say that these wishes have come true more often than they haven’t.
Last night, about two minutes before midnight, my wife asked me to open the patio door. If the interwebs are correct, this is an old Irish tradition to “let the bad luck out and the good luck in”. Hopefully it works for us because it’s been one hell of a year.
As the clock struck twelve this year, for me, it was less about the wishes and more about asking myself the simple question…
What Do You Want to Do Differently?
Hive has been an integral part of my personal and professional journey over the last six and a half years. The platform has given me so, so much…friends across the globe, outreach for my writing, an incubator for ideas, not to mention exposure to cryptocurrency. Most importantly of all, it’s given me the confidence to know there isn’t anything in this world that isn’t achievable with passion and a whole lot of patience.
The world has changed so very much since I began my Hive journey on July 5th of 2016, as have I. I very much saw the world through rose-colored glasses back then. It was a trait that served me well in some ways but in other ways it was a great disservice.
Back to the question…
What Do You Want to Do Differently?
2024 will be a year of grounding for me, of getting back to basics. This year I am going to think more of myself and my own needs.
I’m going to do less planning and more living.
Make decisions less from my brain and more from my heart.
I want to spend less time with those who zap my energy, and more time in the presence of those who fill me with light.
I want to continue to strive to be present so as not to miss out on the wonderful things that already surround me.
I’m also going to attempt to write much more regularly on Hive, with one caveat, the content will become much more personal in nature, more like a journal, and from the heart.
Thank you for all of the support and friendship last year.
Cheers to a wonderfully fulfilling 2024 for us all! May we have the strength and wisdom to learn all of the lessons put before us. As the clock strikes twelve in a little less than a year I hope we find ourselves happier, more content, and more at peace than we were when this year began. That's really all we can wish for.
What would you like to do differently this year?

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.
These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you.
