¡Hola amigos lectores! Hoy me paso por acá para traerles mi reseña acerca de un libro que tenía pendiente hace rato y finalmente llegó el día en que lo leí. Les estoy hablando de La casa en el mar más azul del autor TJ Klune.
Hello fellow readers! Today I'm stopping by to bring you my review of a book I've been meaning to read for a while, and I finally got around to it. I'm talking about The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune.
En esta historia conoceremos a Linus Baker, un trabajador social encargado de hacer las investigaciones del Departamento Encargado de los Jóvenes Mágicos (DEJOMA), estos centros funcionan como orfanatos para niños con algún tipo de magia. Estos niños son apartados de la sociedad por ser diferentes y son criados, educados y protegidos en centros especializados. La vida de Linus se podría considerar tranquila, monótona y vacío, de su trabajo a casa y así sucesivamente. Hasta que un día Altísima Dirección le da una misión de alto nivel: pasar una temporada en la isla de Marsyas para supervisar un orfanato secreto al que van los niños que son clasificados como peligrosos. Linus no está muy seguro, pero no tiene otra opción, así que con todos sus miedos y prejuicios va a ese lugar sin saber que le depara. Seguro que no tenía idea que iba a encontrar su lugar en el mundo en aquel sitio apartado.
In this story, we meet Linus Baker, a social worker tasked with conducting investigations for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth (DEJOMA). These centers function as orphanages for children with magical abilities. These children are isolated from society for being different and are raised, educated, and protected in specialized facilities. Linus's life could be described as quiet, monotonous, and empty—from work to home and so on. Until one day, Higher Management gives him a high-level assignment: to spend some time on the island of Marsyas overseeing a secret orphanage for children classified as dangerous. Linus isn't entirely sure, but he has no other choice, so with all his fears and prejudices, he goes to this place without knowing what awaits him. He certainly had no idea that he would find his place in the world in that remote location.
A pesar de tener ganas de leer este libro hace tiempo y de haber leído un par de opiniones previas de las personas a lo largo de ese tiempo, no tenía idea de lo que me iba a encontrar. Es una historia que me tomo desprevenida, no sabía de su alcance fantástico. Así que me resultó muy peculiar cuando fui descubriendo lo de los jóvenes mágicos, aunque no hay magia como tal, como la conocemos. Pero no por eso deja de ser un libro encantador. Lo que tiene este autor es que sabes que sus escritos te van a llevar al corazón y esté no es la excepción.
Despite wanting to read this book for a while and having read a few reviews over the years, I had no idea what to expect. It's a story that caught me completely off guard; I wasn't aware of its fantastical scope. So, I found it quite peculiar when I discovered the whole magical youth thing, even though there isn't magic as we know it. But that doesn't make it any less of a charming book. What this author has going for him is that you know his writing will touch your heart, and this one is no exception.
Aunque debo decir que al principio no me convenció tanto. Me costó adaptarme a la historia porque me resultaba un poco aburrida, pero era tal cual lo que estaba sintiendo el protagonista, su vida era así, aburrida, sin color, sin otros planes más que hacer su trabajo y llegar a su casa a descansar junto a su gata y sus discos antiguos. La cosa cambio cuando llego a su nuevo destino, el orfanato de Marsyas, ahí se puso muy interesante. Quería saber de los niños, de los prejuicios de la gente, ver qué es lo que tenía para ofrecer esta historia y me sorprendio para bien.
Although I must say that at first I wasn't entirely convinced. I struggled to get into the story because I found it a bit boring, but it perfectly reflected what the protagonist was feeling; his life was like that—dull, colorless, with no plans other than doing his job and going home to rest with his cat and his old records. Things changed when he arrived at his new destination, Marsyas's orphanage; that's when it became very interesting. I wanted to know about the children, about people's prejudices, to see what this story had to offer, and it pleasantly surprised me.
Es un libro que terminas y se siente como un abrazo al alma. Ahí radica su magia, es una lectura confort, de esas que te dejan el corazón calentito. Adoras a la mayoría de los personajes, y a otros los odias por sus prejuicios, claro. Los 6 niños que viven en esa casa junto al mar más azul son todo lo que está bien. Me encariñe con ellos de entrada, mis favoritos fueron Chauncey y Talia, amé cada una de sus peculiaridades, porque sí, son diferentes pero no dejan de ser niños que necesitan amor y cuidados como cualquiera.
It's a book that, when you finish it, feels like a hug for your soul. That's where its magic lies; it's a comforting read, one of those that leaves your heart warm. You adore most of the characters, and you hate others for their prejudices, of course. The six children who live in that house by the bluest sea are everything that's right. I fell in love with them from the start; my favorites were Chauncey and Talia. I loved each of their quirks because, yes, they're different, but they're still children who need love and care like anyone else.
También adoré a Zoe y a Arthur, el director del orfanato, aunque más que director era el padre de esos niños. Realmente me encariñe con todos ellos y algun que otro personaje más. Además, hay una bonita historia de amor que nace desde lo más puro, que es lento pero se siente bien. Lo que caracteriza la escritura del autor es que sus historias románticas son con personas queer, así que eso es lo que van a encontrar acá. Y además, sus historias siempre te dejan una enseñanza y reflexiones. Se puede decir que es un libro profundo.
I also adored Zoe and Arthur, the orphanage director, though he was more like a father to those children. I truly grew fond of all of them and a few other characters as well. There's also a beautiful love story that blossoms from the purest of hearts; it's slow but heartwarming. What characterizes the author's writing is that his romantic stories feature queer people, so that's what you'll find here. And what's more, his stories always leave you with a lesson and food for thought. You could say it's a profound book.
Es un libro que trata acerca de los prejuicios, las segundas oportunidades y de esa familia que elijes y que te elije. De encontrar tu lugar en el mundo en el sitio menos pensado cuando menos te lo esperas. Es de volver a empezar y de desterrar los juicios de valor de la sociedad y la discriminación hacia seres que son diferentes en apariencia, pero iguales en esencia. Una muy linda historia que les recomiendo un monton. No se van a arrepentir y les va a dejar sensaciones muy lindas al terminarlo. Lo recomiendo de corazón.
It's a book about prejudice, second chances, and the family you choose and that chooses you. It's about finding your place in the world in the most unexpected place, when you least expect it. It's about starting over and banishing society's value judgments and discrimination against people who are different in appearance but equal in essence. A truly beautiful story that I highly recommend. You won't regret it, and it will leave you with wonderful feelings when you finish it. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
