Wednesday Walking — RSL Club
The weather was not great today. Cloudy, little bit of rain on and off. The kind of day where you think maybe just stay home. But I went anyway.
While I was walking, I passed by the RSL Club.
RSL stands for Returned Services League — it's an organization for veterans, people who came back from war. Actually the word "Returned" is important here. It's been around since 1916, started during WWI. One of the biggest veteran organizations in Australia.
In front of the club, there was a memorial for soldiers who died in the war. And what made this one a little special — there was a helicopter model right next to it. I walked up closer and took some photos. It's a strange feeling, standing there on just a normal Wednesday morning.
Every year on April 25, Australia has Anzac Day(Australian and New Zealand Army Corps).
It's a day to remember and honor those who served and died in wars. Dawn services, marches — people really show up for it. And kids learn about it at school too. I think that's really good actually.
This is what I took on ANZAC day service this year. They even remember dog too.
- LEST WE FORGET *
The RSL clubs also run restaurants and other activities, and the money goes to supporting veterans and their families. It's a really nice system I think.
Today's walk was good. Got some fresh air and also learned a little something. Not bad for a grey Wednesday.
