This painting was a gift to my Dad as he had just discovered that i could paint.
i was working one night when my phone rang and it was my dad on the other line, me and my dad are far apart as im living in USA and he lives in the Philippines, we pretty much dont talk alot but he was just happy about the paintings that my cousins showed him.
My Dad used to be a President of an Engineering Firm for 30 years. It was an American owned Company, so my dad was earning dollars in my country which was so much. I did not follow his foot steps as when i was a kid till college i never had the urge to draw or have interest in his line of work, i didn't like math at all like everyone else.
I remember he saw me draw when i was young for projects and assignments and he had to remake it again for me, as i presumed it was not pleasing to his eyes.
That was a sign that i have no future in architecture or engineering, He used to give more attention to my sister alot, as she always gets good grades and was good in arts and plays the piano well, while i was just an average student that gets in to trouble alot.
We have not spoke for years and i didn't know what to say, and his first words for me was
"Son im so proud of you" as i asked why? He said "Im proud of what you have become" as he knew that i was successful in my career of choice and with family and he was asking me "how did you learn to paint like that? Your paintings are so beautiful and im so proud of you" you know what, tears wont stop falling from my eyes. and the only thing i could say was,
"Dad i have been waiting for so long to hear those words from you, you just dont know what it means to me hearing those words from you"
and then now we were both in tears. And for the first time in my life i felt so comfortable talking to him about my life. It was Such a blessing for both of us to be able to feel that way.
And after telling him stories about my painting, i simply asked him, what would he want me to paint for him and i will deliver it personally! He was thinking and he wanted a painting of the "Manila Bay" as it was the view from his office for 30years
Manila Bay has the most amazing sunsets, i remember when i was a kid and waiting for my dad finish work, i would just stare at the biggest sunset as it was his view form his office. And this was his view everyday. And thats exactly what i painted for him.
Thank you for viewing my story
