It is simply pain or irritation of the throat that gets bad when you swallow.
SOME CAUSES OF SORE THROAT
- Pharyngitis a viral infection cause by (a cold or flu) is the most common cause of a sore throat that resolves on its own.
- Strep throat (streptococcal infection), a less common type of sore throat is a bacteria infection, requires treatment with antibiotics to prevent complications. Certain STD's, such as gonorrhea can rarely cause a sore throat.
- Toxins/Irritants,cigarette smoke, air pollution, and noxious airborne chemicals etc lead to sore throat.
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS OF SORE THROAT
The signs/symptoms of a sore throat vary depending on the causative agent.
Pain, dry burning or scratching sensations at the back of the throat, pain when swallowing etc are common symptoms, accompanying this symptoms mostly are:

cough, sneezing, fever, and swollen lymph nodes, nausea and/or vomiting, body aches, headache, runny nose or nasal congestion, earache, lack of appetite, etc.
HOME REMEDIES TO SOOTHE A SORE THROAT
- Saltwater gargles, (1 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water) and then spitting it out.
- Drinking warm liquids (such as caffeine-free tea, water with honey, or warm soup broth) or eating n ice cream.
- Using a humidifier to moisten dry air.
- If the sore throat is caused by infection, it is important to drink plenty of fluids and to rest in order to prevent dehydration and to allow your body to properly recover.
- Lozenges such a strepsils and dequadin soothes a soar throat.

Yes it is, these types of infection are transmitted person-to-person via saliva or even nasal secretions the medium the spread through is by airborne respiratory droplets, or through direct contact with infected objects and infected surfaces.

A sore throat caused by a viral infection usually lasts five to seven days. If the sore throat is caused by a bacterial infection, a Doctor will prescribe antibiotics, please take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed even if the symptoms are gone to avoid resistance🙏.
There are various over-the-counter medications that can help soothe a sore throat. Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) or ibuprofen are analgesics that can provide pain relief.
Aspirin tablets for gargling are available in Pharmacy outlets.
