Days are getting dark so I want to bring a more whimsical and summery set of self portraits to you as a throwback, originally posted a year ago in July.
This was shot in the forests of central Finland, and it was a really hard one to do. You can only imagine how infernal the amount of mosquitoes is during a warm summer day with no wind and being near the water. I remember having to photoshop the mosquitoes out of the image because you could see them against my pale skin and the white skirt. I wouldn't normally go to shoot on a midday sun, but this spot is within a thick forest, so it's the only time of the day that the light hits this place.
I remember a day from my childhood when we would run up and down the creek with my cousins, going through the drum that goes under a road. It was like stepping into Narnia on the other side. The air is as pure as it can be, the only sounds you hear are of nature and your fellow adventurous types, beautiful dragonflies circle around your head, along with the damn mosquitoes.....
The water in the creek is of course freezingly cold, and while the water itself is clear and shallow, the humus in the bottom is almost black and it's really hard to walk in all the sharp and slippery rocks.
I am not sure if I was more afraid of falling myself, dropping my phone in there (which I used as a remote), or having the tripod and camera fall over into the water and rocks. Luckily, we all go away safe and sound, and produced these images for you.
These are photographed and modelled by me, with the Nikon D7200, but I can't recall which lens, because I didn't specify it in my old post, but some Nikkor for sure.
