Haifa City In Northwestern Israel On Mount Carmel Overlooking The Mediterranean Sea
Haifa is a beautiful city that overlooks the spectacular Mediterranean Sea. It sits on Mount Carmel, and is the third largest city in Israel. Only the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are larger. Also on Mount Carmel is Mount Carmel National Park. This amazing park is the largest National Park in all of Israel. The mountain range is beautiful and filled with many trees of pine, cypress, and even eucalyptus. It covers over 24,710 acres of land with much of it forested. Imagine, if you can, the scent of fresh eucalyptus as you enjoy the many hiking trails.
The Dome Of The Stella Maris Monastery
The Stella Maris (Star of the Sea) Monastery of Israel is generally called The Monastery of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. No matter the name you choose to call it, it's architecture is spectacular. Look up at the magnificent dome and see David softly playing his harp, or Elijah ascending into the heavens. While traveling in the Holy Land, it is a beautiful Monastery with a lot of history. The Cave of Elijah is also under the sanctuary. You take the stairs to the lower level to see this historic cave. It was too dark and pictures were not allowed.
It is also home to the Israel National Museum of Science, Technology, and Space. This is a very child friendly museum if you have children. The Bahá'í World Centre is also located in Haifa and is the spiritual center of the Baha'i Faith. Down the hill, below the center, is German Town. This is a fun area, and the food is amazing.
If you are looking for adventure, history, and culture.......Haifa is an excellent choice. So why not grab your passport and head for Israel. It is amazing to see all the places that were important to those who lived before us.
