Schmidt’s Red-tailed At The San Diego Zoo In California USA

The Heart Felt World Of The Schmidt's Red-tailed Monkey   

The cute little Schmidt's Red-tailed Monkey is a monkey with many names. Throughout the world he is known as the Black-cheeked white-nosed monkey, Schmidt's Guenon, Red-tailed Guenon, and just the Red-tailed Monkey.  With a pocket full of tricks, He is a favorite among the zoos of the world.  He is native to Central Africa, but can be found throughout Africa. He is known for his very large cheeks that he uses to carry and store food for a latter time. 

The Schmidt's Red-tailed Monkey is extremely curious and has many cute and interesting habits and behaviors. Perhaps our  favorite is the way they great each other. It is almost magic the way they express affection. They very gently touch their noses together. Then they run off together, becoming very playful. It is a fun and amazing sight if you have the opportunity to witness it. 

While the Red-tailed Monkey is primarily a fruit eater, he is an excellent hunter, eating many types of green leaves, flowers, and even insects. When he finds treasures, he just keeps filling his huge cheeks and when done he will run off quick before anything can come along and try to steal his bounty. When he is well away from any danger, he then will sit down and have a relaxing meal. 

This smart and social monkey is another one of the amazing residents of the San Diego Zoo in Southern California USA. The San Diego Zoo is one of the top zoos in the country, and it is the perfect family adventure. So gather the family, pack a lunch,  add a few snacks and wander on over for a zoo adventure.
