Five Minute Freewrite: I'm so cultural

I'm so cultural and people often wonder why, Dera said to herself. This is a story about Dera who was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Chigbo. Mr Chigbo is an Igbo man while Mrs Chigbo is a Yoruba woman. They are both from two different cultures and in fact it could be said that both cultures see themselves as enemies because their ancestors were always involved in tribal wars.

Dare as a child born from two contrasting cultures faced a lot of challenges as she was neither accepted by both cultures. However, she was a strong spirited child as such she had always put up a strong front whenever such issues occurred. Even during family, school, or any social gathering, the fact that was not a full bred Igbo or Yoruba girl was always made known and felt.

One day, Dora decided instead of being affected by the discrimination, she decided to learn every single detail about both cultures so she could at least have a fighting chance and stand her ground when issues arise.

This sole decision made her a genius in both cultures as she took her time to study them well. The things she now knows surpass even those that are full bred, all because of her dedication.

Dera grew up to be a strong and independent woman. People often see her as an embodiment of both cultures as she always represents both, so they call her "The Hybrid of Igbo and Yoruba".
