The United States believes the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons in an attack in Douma City, Syria, on April 7, 2018. The attack killed more than 60 people and injured hundreds of people.
In a written statement of the White House, sent via the US Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, the American conclusion was based on a description of the symptoms experienced by victims, video footage and images showing the chemical weapons attack .
The White House said an influential information agency called the Syrian regime using chlorine to bomb Douma. Some other sources of information call the regime also use sarin poison. The Syrian regime has a history of using chemical weapons, even after the Syrian government promised to stop its chemical weapons program.
The White House statement was contrary to the information submitted by members of the United Nations (UN) Commission for International Independent Investigation of Syria, Carla del Ponte. He revealed a group of Syrian anti-Syrian rebels Bashar al-Assad who fired a chemical weapon of sarin nerve gas.
This is based on the testimony of victims of chemical weapons attacks that testify that the anti-Assad rebels who spread the deadly gas, not the Syrian government forces, such as the accusations of America and its allies.
Meanwhile, quoted from globalnews.ca website on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, an independent investigative team has been prevented from entering Douma City, which is located near the capital Damascus. Independent investigative teams came in after the United States, France and Britain bombarded a number of places in Syria, believed to be connected to Syria's chemical weapons program.
"The existence of a number of security issues has made the investigation team unable to reach Douma," said Ahmet Uzumcu, director general of the Ahmet Uzumcu Chemical Banning Organization (OPCW).
The Syrian authorities had previously offered 22 people to be interviewed as eyewitnesses. Uzumcu is currently hoping the necessary deal could be made so that an independent investigative team can be deployed to Douma as soon as possible.
