@FARMS VISIT TO DRUID POULTRY FARM FOR ON-SCENE INSPECTION AND EMPOWERMENT

In a bid to verify the authenticity of the empowerment proposal submitted by a steemchurch parishioner - Hive account@druids, apostle Hive account@abiye and his trusted cabinet (steemchurch parishioners) comprising of Hive account@msytiqueblinkx and Hive account@mackoblinkz carefully reviewed the proposal and fixed a unanimous date to see druids which was on the 22^nd of may, 2018.

A WALKDOWN OF THE TRIP

The team (Hive account@abiye and Hive account@msytiqueblinkx) set out early to meet the famous Hive account@druids. The journey, which can only be described as tedious and long turned out to be satisfactory. On getting to the meet-up location, the team were welcomed by Hive account@druids in a very warm manner. We had to take another vehicle to Hive account@druids home where the poultry is located.

POULTRY LAYOUT

The poultry pen consists of 68 birds (layers) owned by Hive account@druids. The birds appeared to be in healthy condition and the poultry environment looked clean and we'll kept. It was a wooden cage structure that had four compartments. The compartments housed the birds. Rubber tires were placed in the pen along with sawdust spread on the floors for specific purposes which we learned from druids.

• the birds lay an average of two crates daily

• the sick birds are given treatment and in some cases need to be isolated so as not to infect the other birds

• the birds are bought at what druids called "point-of-lay"

• the birds start laying as early as six weeks from the time they're bought

• the combination of these birds consume a staggering 2 bags of feed weekly. A bag is purchased at NGN3500

• Sawdust is spread in the pen to ease cleaning of the birds housing.

• sawdust is poured in the rubber tires to enable hens to lay eggs without causing damage to the eggs.

• token gotten from egg sales is then recycled and used to buy more feed.

We also learned the poultry's mode of operations, collection of eggs and also egg sales. The lifespan of the birds also determine how long the birds are kept which is 18months. This is because the efficiency rate of laying decreases with time. The birds are all sold at the same time and the proceeds are used to purchase new layers (also at point of lay).

The mode of running the poultry seemed efficient and Hive account@abiye, in the order of sirknight decided that Hive account@druids is a good person to empower. His vision is clear and it's glaring he has passion for agriculture. He also has skills and experience in running a poultry. The sum of NGN100,000 would be given to Hive account@druids to improve efficiency of running the business and increase the business growth rate.

The contract binding the agreement between Hive account@druids and Hive account@farms would be presented to Hive account@druids at the next meeting.

The meet-up ended on a satisfactory note with smiles and small talks about the growth of Hive account@steemchurch, Hive account@farms and steemit in general.
