This topic reminds me of the current situation in Nigeria where we barely know what the elites are collecting. In this post, I would like to share the both sides. Publishing everyone's earnings and salaries online for public consumption could be a difficult or simple thing depending on the side of the coin. There are varied schools of thoughts to this important topic for this edition. Some people believe that if this is published, it would promote fairness, honesty and accountability especially for the elite and politicians.
On the other hand publishing salary online could raise some questions and create insecurity, jealousy and other problems. Introducing such system might affect some individuals directly or indirectly. Salary transparency might lead to lots of benefits however the disadvantages could result to another thing.
Let's scroll through some of the advantages of publishing salaries. I think it will reduce the rate of corruption and promote transparency. This is an essential factor that is lacking today in Nigeria. People are involved in some illegal means of living. If earnings is made public, it would be easy to detect certain people's wealth. For instance in Nigeria, you would notice someone that collects small salary but the kind of things he does is beyond his or her earnings. This is completely wrong. Society tries to measure individuals according to their earnings and what they have to offer.
Advantage of this kind of thing is that it would help workers to deal with unfair treatment. If salaries are published at least it would cut the rate of under paying other staff. At least every organization will sit up in order to meet with demands. Most workers will compare how much they earn with their similar colleagues in another establishment.
I think many that have potential in securing jobs with government and other private sectors publishing salaries would help them to make critical decisions.Young people would better understand which professions pay well and which do not. This information could help them plan their education and future more wisely. Employers might also become more careful and professional in the way they structure salaries because the public would be watching. Organization and government will have no option than to restrategize in order to boost the confidence of their workers.
As I earlier stated that there are also disadvantages of publishing salaries online. One of the things or setback that it would bring is that there won't be privacy which could put one in a tight corner. Many people consider their earnings to be personal information. Publishing salaries online could make individuals uncomfortable and expose them to unnecessary public judgment. Some people may not want friends, neighbors, or extended family members to know how much they earn. If financial desire of people is high, it will put pressure on one especially those of in Nigeria. Different people and family members will call for support.
Another disadvantage of publishing salaries online is that it increase danger, bitterness. Fraudsters will easily access information and plan something evil. Like in Nigeria where the rate of insecurity is just on th increase. Publishing names will result to kidnapping and other scam activities.For employers, salary transparency could have both positive and negative effects. On one hand, companies would be encouraged to pay fairly and avoid discrimination. On the other hand, businesses might struggle with constant employee comparisons and disputes over salaries.
Conclusion;
Making known salaries and earnings is to ensure lots of benefit
