If you ask what is Facebook, most people will say, it is a social media that connects people all over the world. You can keep in touch with your friends and family. That sounds pretty cool.
Yes, that's right, but what we don't usually think is that Facebook is an advertising company that sells your data and make money. You can use facebook for free. Honestly speaking, nothing is free as it seems. In facebook's eyes, you are the product. And advertisers are its customers.
Social media takes advantage of the vulnerability of human psychology. When you set a new profile picture, people like that and you get notification. We all want to know what other people say about us - our appearance. Your new profile picture holds longer in front of other people so that they can like and comment. Everything consciously designs to hold your attention.
When we get likes, hearts and comment, we feel good because of dopamine. And we want it back and more. It runs like a circle and we catch up on that.
It is your life. It is YOU who have the control. Your data are valuable assets for the company. Now you know what it really is. When you use Facebook this time, you will be more aware of what to do and what not to do.
Is there any alternative of facebook?
There are some platforms that might replace Facebook in future. Everything is moving from centralized to decentralized system. You can use Steemit and Minds. Ono is coming soon that built on top of EOS. There will be more social media on EOS.
We are going to see a massive shift in social media where you have control on your data and privacy. Everything will be open and you can see what's going on behind your back.
