A little Gloom and Doom with light at the end of the tunnel
I thought I would kick this article off with that mixed metaphor title. But I just saw a video from Real Vision on youtube about how the FED in the US is now funding the government and in real trouble what the money policy is concerned. When I saw this and thought about this its really scary and it does not bode well for the future of a lot of people. Especially since the US dollar is the de facto reserve currency in the world.
For around the next 18 years, 10K baby boomers are going to retire EACH AND EVERY DAY in the United states alone.
That means that 3,650,000 people are going to start living of their pension and social security, with higher costs for Medicare, Medicaid and so on.
In the US the Social Security System is already giving out more than they are taking in. And on top of that they stole all the positive value out of the social security fund, when it was actually funded and replaced it with IOUs called treasuries. They then spent the money and ran so called surpluses.
Compare this to emptying your personal savings spending them all, and then putting a check under your mattress for the same amount from yourself to yourself. Lol. Just because you put a check in there doesn't mean you have the funds.
So they stole the social security and replaced it with IOUs called treasuries.
- Cash flow negative in social security with trillions of worthless IOU treasuries
- No one in the world wants to take on those treasuries without being able to hedge them properly
- The largest retirement class in history retiring at a rate of 365 million a year for the next 18 years
- We are at the top of the economic cycle and are supposedly doing great while running 1.4 trillion dollar deficits per year
- Imagine the what the deficits could be in the next recession? 3 trillion a year or more?
- Now if you add in all the unfunded liabilities together there are estimates of 220 trillion of net present value future liabilities.
Does this kind of paint you a picture?
This is what is coming unless something happens to all baby boomers.
Now, since we are unable to kill, poison or exterminate all Baby Boomers these things will become a reality. Its not looking good.
And if the de facto reserve currency is going down the drain there is going to be a knock on effect worldwide to all other economies. The whole thing looks like a set of dominos and the biggest and first one is wobbling.
So what are we to do? Or better, What am I doing?
The only thing you can do is trying to hedge the risk against either super inflation, a cheap dollar or a stock market crash if you have investments. I would say the traditional ways like Gold and Silver are still very valid.
The ones reading this on Steem are also on the way. Get into crypto, get some bitcoin. Just make sure to not overextend yourself. In the end these are just my own opinions on points that I have taken away from this video and other similar articles.
