Miércoles de sol radiante. Los días de lluvia parecen quedarse atrás, pero hay algo nuevo en el calor de Maracaibo. No la recuerdo relativamente fresca como en estos días a pesar del calor obvio. Es decir, no me malinterpreten, sigue habiendo calor fuerte pero jamás como lo recuerdo: sofocante y obligante de sombras. Hacia inicios de éste siglo, cuando residía acá, recuerdo buscar el aire acondicionado desesperadamente entre el momento que bajaba de mi vehículo y el momento en que podía entrar a cualquier lugar ambientalmente frío. No ha sido así en éstos días, supongo que ya va siendo cuestión del invierno en el hemisferio norte y el fenómeno climatológico "La Niña"
Wednesday of radiant sunshine. The rainy days seem to be behind us, but there is something new about the heat in Maracaibo. I don't remember it being relatively cool these days despite the apparent heat. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's still hot, but never as I remember it: suffocating and forcing shadows. At the beginning of this century, when I lived here, I remember desperately looking for the air conditioning between the time I got out of my car and the time I could enter any cool place. It has not been so these days, I guess it is already a matter of winter in the northern hemisphere and the climatological phenomenon "La Niña".

El acceso al agua potable con regularidad, sigue siendo una tarea pendiente de las autoridades locales. La vida transcurre entre el apuro por recoger el escaso vital líquido y las horas en que probablemente puede llegar por la tubería. Es una suerte. Por ejemplo: Hubo servicio de agua potable en los dos días previos al Miércoles, pero ese día amanecimos sin una gota. Afortunadamente, el apartamento donde me encuentro tiene un par de tanques de polietileno donde se almacena el agua cuando brota por las tuberías. El día en la exhibición también estuvo un poco flojo como el día seis durante la tarde y ya cercano a las 18 horas es que comienza a llegar el flujo de personas.
Regular access to drinking water is still a pending task for local authorities. Sanbeniteros tocan los tambores
La nota cultural del día fue un escándalo que tenía mucho tiempo sin escuchar. Y digo escándalo porque comenzó como un murmullo lejano y empezó a subir de volumen mientras se acercaban los "Sanbeniteros" Un culto propio de la región al único santo afroamericano que conozco: San Benito. Éste consiste en un desfile de tambores donde se carga el santo a hombros. Un portaestandarte va dibujando círculos en el aire y la fila de hombres tocando tambores, bailando además, era ensordecedora. Y como la procesión es lenta, imaginará usted, amado lector, en cual estado quedaron nuestros tímpanos.
The cultural note of the day was a scandal I hadn't heard about for a long time. And I say scandal because it started as a distant murmur and increased in volume as the "Sanbeniteros" approached.
