Here is a close-up, finally, of my Star Trek costume based on the short uniforms of the original TV series. The collar was made with a wide strip of remnant fabric from a swimsuit I made years ago. I stitched it to the neckline, then rolled it to the inside and tacked it by hand to create the cowl collar.
The emblem was cut out of extra-wide ribbon I found at Hobby Lobby. I still have almost a full spool of ribbon for other costume needs in the future.
The sleeve stripe is one band of wide gold ric-rac trim to indicate a Lieutenant rank. In the original series, two bands would indicate Commander and three for Captain.
Here I am with friends on Sci-Fi theme day at our homeschool enrichment classes:
Costume sewing is so much fun! Improvisation is the rule, with fun as the goal. It is a welcome break from the pressure of sewing for weddings, for sure.
