An E. Coli infection is spreading in U.S. and Canada, and romaine lettuce may be the reason for it according to Consumer Reports.
So far 58 people are sick and one dead. On December 28th, people from 13 different states in U.S. were reported sick. The Public Health Agency of Canada has identified romaine lettuce as the source of the outbreak in Canada. In America, officials are still working on identifying the cause of the outbreak.
FDA is recalling foods with E. coli risk, but not publicly warning people because they have not identified the source yet. It can take weeks before they can identify the source, but many more can get infected before the source is identified.
I would like the Steemit community to avoid romaine lettuce until this outbreaks passes through. Also, please let your family and friends know to avoid romaine lettuce as well. If you want to be extra careful, then avoid uncooked food altogether until we are in the clear.
One is six Americans are made sick by food borne illnesses every year according to CDC – that is about 48 million people. 3000 die from those food borne illnesses every year. Let’s be careful and not fall victim to something that can be avoided easily.
How do we contract E. coli?
When we cook food, bacteria’s are killed. However, food such as lettuce are not cooked, and very easy to contract.
Symptoms:
Sever stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting.
