It's been a while. Since January 2020, to be exact, since we did a Sunday supper. Last night we did. Not like the ones of old where we hosted paying diners, but friends. I thought I might have lost my touch.
It seems not.
A vintage aside
The evening gave me the opportunity to use cups and saucers that I had bought specifically for Sunday Suppers. I bought these because we have never had cups and saucers and I had been serving tea in mugs. Some people are purists and I would have liked to honour that. So when a friend was downsizing ahead of leaving the village and the country, and was selling this vintage set, I couldn't resist.
I didn't use them exactly as I'd originally intended (that still may happen), but they are useful - and pretty - nevertheless.
Back to supper
I did, though, worry about the dessert because baking of sweet things and cakes isn't really my forté. Also, because I never do anything the "right way" seldom practise and wing things a lot, I made the dessert on Saturday. A new recipe using the guavas I'd stewed earlier in the week.
The guavas are nestled underneath that coconut topping and to be sure they were "presentable" for our guests (I don't believe the clean skewer), we had a taste test on Saturday evening.
The batter was beautifully cooked and delicious.
This is how our guests enjoyed dessert.
Seems we've not lost our touch: no pics from the supper in progress, but here is the post departure photo of the aftermath, and which was an almost traditional part of my Sunday Supper thing.
Would we do them again. Only if we were asked and then it would depend on numbers, days... That said, perhaps I am recovering my enjoyment of cooking and entertaining that was killed by covid crud.
Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:
- re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
- and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
- From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.
