So you’re sick but you don’t want to break your momentum, should you suck it up and workout? I have been here a few times myself. It’s heartbreaking sometimes because I get a good routine going and then out of nowhere it seems sickness creeps up. I start to panic because a few times I will be on a roll, getting some amazing results but don’t want to break it, though I worry I will just get worst and no one wants that.
I did some research online and found a great article that helped me in my decision making when it comes to working out sick. PrecisionNutrition has a great article: Should you exercise when sick? Please go check out the article and show them some love. But from that article I made my own personal rule that if I am sick, as long as I am not puking sick, I will just stick to a light workout. Below is a great breakdown of the do’s and don’ts when you want to get your sweat on, when you’re sick:
Now I love JiuJitsu but obviously, Jujitsu wouldn’t be happening as I don’t want to get anyone else sick. Though I will work on my flexabity by doing some Yoga or do transition drilling with a small heavy bag I have. That way I feel like I get to stay on top of my JiuJitsu game without actually going to the gym. Sure you can’t compare the two but it’s better than nothing.
In the past as well too I have been doing a workout well sick but ten to fifteen minutes into the workout I just feel like I have no energy and can’t continue. At this point I normally call it quits and move on. You know your body and there is no point I figure on killing yourself to just do a workout. I rather be out one day than a week because I pushed myself too far.
I tend not to go too hard too during the workout because when I’m sick I tend to not eat too much so I run on fewer calories. It all depends on what’s wrong with me but I am not going to go full workhorse being sick and only eating a few veggies previously. Again I don’t want to make things worst but just keep the ball rolling.
I know this topic is very subjective and I by no means am I an expert but this is just what I personally do when I am sick. I am sure I will add a few things or remove them as time goes on but I find a light nice cardio workout when I am sick helps ease that little drill sergeant in my head Yelling at me to get off my butt, well not making things worst.
When you’re sick what do you do workout wise? Do you just relax and focus on recovery or do you go out and get a sweat going?
