Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. I spent the whole weekend enjoying myself painting and drawing. Due to other commitments, it's a bit harder to stay active these days, but I always try to keep my skills sharp. This time, I painted all the avatars of the band Gorillaz, one of the best bands I listened to in the early 2000s, and who have continued to release great albums over time. I drew the four main members: 2-D, Murdock, Noodle, and Russel. I drew each member on a different banknote design to make it colorful, and they were painted with acrylic paints. Hola queridos amigos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, todo el fin de semana estuve muy entretenido pintando y dibujando. Por otras ocupaciones ahora me cuesta un poco más de trabajo mantenerme activo, sin embargo siempre trato de mantener mis habilidades activas. En esta oportunidad he pintado todos los avatars de la banda Gorillaz, una de las mejores bandas que pude escuchar iniciando los años 2000, y que se han mantenido a lo largo del tiempo sacando buenos discos. dibujé a los 4 integrantes representantes, los nombres de cada uno son 2-D, Murdock, Noodle y Russel, a cada miembro lo hice en un billete de diseño diferente para que se viera colorido, y están pintado con pintura acrílicas. Aquí les muestro como hice a cada uno de ellos, espero que les guste, comencemos!
I started by drawing 2-D, who is usually the lead singer. As you can see, I used a green banknote to make the background eye-catching. Once I had the entire outline of the drawing, I applied a layer of white paint, and then gradually added the rest, starting with the purple hair and the skin of the face.
Comencé dibujando a 2-D quien la mayor parte de las veces siempre es el vocalista, como pueden observar utilicé un billete de color verde para que el fondo sea llamativo. Una vez hice toda la silueta del dibujo puse una capa de pintura blanca, para luego ir agregando poco a poco el resto, comenzando por el cabello el cual es de color púrpura y también la piel del rostro.
Then I added contrast to the hair to make the lower part a lighter tone, then I finished painting the entire face and shaping it. To make the silhouette look better, I outlined it with a very fine brush and black paint; this way the outline helps with the volume and makes it stand out from the background.
Luego fui agregando contraste e el cabello para hacer la parte inferior un tono más claro, luego termine de pintar todo el rostro y darle forma. Para que la silueta quedara mejor lo que hice fue delinearla con pincel muy fino y pintura negra de esta manera el contorno ayuda con el volumen y que pueda diferenciarse del fondo.
Similarly, I began painting Murdock. Here, I also changed the banknote to add a different background color, specifically a warmer one to make his figure stand out. I painted his face and gradually added details. His skin is a bit darker than 2-D's, but it stays within the same tone.
Del mismo modo comencé a pintar a Murdock, aquí cambié también el billete para poner otro color en el fondo, en especial uno más cálido para que pudiera resaltar su figura. Pinto su rostro y poco a poco voy agregando detalles, la piel es un poco más oscura que la de 2-D pero se mantiene dentro de la misma tonalidad.
Her hair is shorter and black, so for the outline I only use black paint, which I'll use for the hair color. I also add some of the clothes she's wearing and, of course, the cigarette in her mouth, which gives her a lot of personality.
El cabello lo tiene más corto y es de color negro, así para el contorno utilizo solo pintura negra que será la misma que utilizaré para pintar el color del cabello. Agrego también parte de la ropa que tiene puesto y por supuesto el cigarro que tiene en su boca, el cual le da mucha personalidad.
Now it's Noodle's turn. The only girl in the band since the beginning, she always wears headphones and enormous glasses that go everywhere with her. Here, I've started with a soft color for the cape, then worked on each detail one by one until the shape is complete. After that, I begin painting it using different shades of green, within the turquoise range, to give it form.
Ahora es el turno de Noodle, la única chica en la banda desde sus comienzos, siempre tiene unos audífnos y unos enormes lentes que la acompañan a todas partes. Aquí he realizado la capa con color blando para luego hacer uno a uno cada detalle hasta que la forma está completa. Después comienzo a pintarla utilizando diferentes tonos de color vede, dentro del rango de turquesa para irle dando forma.
Then I add more details, like shaping the face and drawing the eyes, to give it that final touch that makes the figure look great. I start painting the entire outline with the same technique of a fine brush and black paint.
Después voy agregando más detalles, como darle forma al rostro y dibujando sus ojos, para darle ese toque final que hace que la figura se vea genial, comienzo a pintar todo el contorno con la misma técnica dle pincel fino y pintura negra.
Finally in line was Russel, the most reserved of the four, adorned with a red hat, representing the hip-hop roots and style the band has had since its inception. Here, too, I've changed the banknote design to create a different and eye-catching contrast.
Por último en la fila, fue el turno de Russel, el más retraído de los 4, el cual está adornado con un gorro de color rojo, representando esas raíce sy estilo hip-hop que posee la banda desde sus inicios. Aquí también he cambiado el diseño del billete para que el contraste sea diferente y llamativo.
Finally, I added the color of the hat, which is dark red, and the detail in the skin tone of the face, which, as you can see, is the darkest of all. Lastly, as I did with each of the drawings, I painted the outline with black paint and a very fine brush. And with that, my work was finished.
Para finalizar agrego el color del gorro el cual es de rojo oscuro y el detalle en el color de la piel del rostro, que como pueden observar es el más oscuro de todos. Por último y como hice a cada uno de los dibujos pinté el contorno con pintura negra y un pincel muy fino. De esta manera quedó finalizdo todo mi trabajo.
What do you think of the final result? Without a doubt, changing the banknote design was the best decision. This is the second time I've painted an entire band; the last time was with The Beatles, and it was a more challenging job because the style was realistic. However, this cartoon style isn't easy either and has its own level of difficulty. I hope you liked the result. Goodbye, and I hope to be back soon. Cheers!
¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado final? sin duda el cambio en el diseño de los billetes fue la mejor decisión, esta es la segunda vez que pinto una banda por completo, la vez pasada fue con The Beatles y fue un trabajo más arduo ya que el estilo era realista. Sin embargo, este estilo de caricatura tampoco es fácil y tiene su nivel de dificultad, espero que les haya gustado el resultado, me despido y espero regresar pronto. Saludos!
