Hello dear fellow crafters and artists of DIY Hub! I hope you're all doing very well. The weekend is here, and it's a pleasure to be back and share some of my creations with you. As time goes by, I accumulate a lot of materials, and in my projects, the number of pencils and brushes always seems to grow. There are so many that I barely have room for them, and sometimes I improvise a pencil holder with a soda can or some plastic. That's why I decided to make a cardboard pencil holder. I found a box in very good condition, with very strong and sturdy cardboard, so I used it for this little project that I really need, and that you can make too if you'd like. Now, I'd like you to join me on a short tour where I'll show you the process and highlights of when I finished the piece. I hope you enjoy it!
Hola queridos amigos artesanos y artistas de DiyHub espero que se encuentren muy muy bien, ya comienza un fin de semana y para mi es un placer regresar por aquí y poder compartir con ustedes algunas de mis creaciones. Con el pasar del tiempo, muchos materiales se van acumulando, y en mis creaciones lo que siempre crece de número son los lápices y los pinceles, son tantos que casi no tengo lugar para ellos y a veces improviso un porta lápices con alguna lata de soda o plástico. Es por eso que he decidió hacer un porta lápices de cartón, encontré una caja en muy buen estado, cuyo cartón es muy fuerte y resistente, así que la destiné para hacer esta pequeña obra que necesito mucho y que ustedes también pueden hacer si lo desean. Ahora quiero que me acompañen en un breve recorrido donde les mostraré el proceso y momentos resaltantes donde pude finalizar la obra, espero que les guste.
As you can see, I used a box that was in very good condition; it was a box of car springs. Since they contain those spare parts, they're always good quality boxes. I didn't use the whole box; I just took one of the lids, which was enough to make the templates and assemble the pencil holder. To cut the cardboard, I used a craft knife, and for smaller details, I just used scissors.
Como pueden observar, utilicé una caja que estaba en muy buen estado, era una caja de espirales para carros, al tener esos repuestos siempre son cajas de buena calidad. No la utilicé en su totalidad, sino que tome una de sus tapas la cual es suficiente para hacer las plantillas y armar el porta lápices. Para cortar el cartón me ayudé con el uso de un cúter de papelería y para cortes de más pequeños detalles solo utilicé una simple tijera.
First, I start by figuring out the shape of the pencil holder, since they come in different shapes. I chose to make one with a round top and a square base. To make the top circle, I use an old CD to trace the circumference with a pencil. Then, from the center, I draw a line with a ruler to draw the base, and next, I draw the sides. To draw the sides, I simply connect the lines at the ends to the circle, creating diagonal lines. After that, I use a craft knife and cut out the entire shape I drew earlier. I separate it from the cardboard and observe how the finished shape turned out.
En primer lugar comienzo idear como será la forma del porta lápices, ya que los hay de diferentes formas, yo elegí hacerlo con la parte superior redonda y la base cuadrada, así que para hacer ese círculo superior utilizo un viejo CD con el cual hago la circunferencia con un lápiz, luego desde el centro trazo una línea con la regla para dibujar la base y seguidamente también dibujo los lados. Para dibujar los lados solo uniremos las líneas de los extremos con el círculo quedando líneas oblícuas. Después de eos utilizamos el cúter y comenzamos a cortar toda la figura antes dibujada, la separamos del cartón y observamos como quedó la figura.
Next, we cut the other piece in the same way and using the same process, so that these are the two main pieces. After that, I cut a piece that measures 8 centimeters long by 6 centimeters wide; this piece will be the base of the pencil holder. Then I cut two more pieces that will be for the sides; these pieces measure 10 centimeters long by 6 centimeters wide. At the end of each piece, I flatten the cardboard so that it can be bent to the shape of the main piece when joining them.
Luego cortamos de la misma forma y con el mismo proceso la otra pieza para que sean las dos piezas principales. Después de eso saco una pieza que mide 8 centímetros de largo por 6 centímetros de ancho, esta pieza es para hacer la base del porta lápices. Luego corto 2 piezas más que será para los laterales, las piezas miden 10 centímetros de largo por 6 centímetros de ancho, en la punta de cada pieza aplasto el cartón para que se pueda doblar con la forma de la pieza principal al momento de unirlos.
I make a small 3-millimeter cut in the base of the pencil holder, as well as in the side pieces. This small cut allows the cardboard to be assembled without the inner part being visible when one piece is stacked on top of another. After making these cuts, I apply glue to the pieces and let it dry for a few minutes. Once dry, I start with the base and then attach the side pieces. Thanks to the good quality cardboard, the pencil holder is well-assembled and very stable. Now all that's left is to add the paint details.
A la base del porta lápices así como también a las piezas laterales, les hago un pequeño corte de 3 milímetros, este pequeño corte sirve para ensamblar el cartón y que no quede visible la parte interior cuando superponemos una pieza con otra. Así que luego de hacerle ese cortes a las piezas les voy poniendo pegamento y dejo secar por pocos minutos, una vez secado comienzo por la base y por último pongo las peizas laterales. Al armar el porta lápices gracias al cartón de buena calidad, ha quedado bien armado y con mucha estabilidad, ahora solo falta agregar detalles de pintura.
Using my painting skills, I begin painting the entire piece with a white background. Then, with a pencil, I sketch Spiderman's mask. Next, I paint the mask with red and then black, leaving only the eyes white.
Aprovechando mis habilidades para la pintura comienzo a pintar toda la pieza con un fondo de color blanco, luego con un lápiz hago la máscara de Spiderman. Seguidamente comienzo a pintar la máscara con los colores rojo y luego negro, solamente dejando los ojos de color blanco
But it's not all about Spiderman; I also drew his archenemy Venom on the back piece. I simply painted his malevolent white eyes surrounded by black paint. After finishing Venom, I painted the rest of the pencil holder black, and that's how it was completed.
Pero no todo queda en Spiderman, también dibujo en la pieza trasera a su archienemigo Venom, únicamente hice sus malévolos ojos blancos rodeados de pintura negra. Luego de haber terminado de dibujar a Venon lo que hago es pintar el resto del porta lápices de color negro, y así quedó finalizado.
FINAL WORK
What do you think of the result? I used acrylic paints, which shine a bit better and provide more coverage. I needed to cover the white background I made at the beginning, which made the Spiderman mask stand out with very vibrant colors. At the end, you can see one of the improvised pencil holders I had—a beer can—but now I have more space for my tools. I had a lot of fun making this craft, and the best part is being able to share it with you. I hope you liked it; if you did, don't forget to comment. ¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? Utilicé las pintuas acrílicas, las cuales brillan un poco mejor y cubran más, y necesitaba cubrir el fondo blanco que hice al inicio, eso hizo que la máscara de Spiderman se viera con colores muy vivos. Al final puieron observar uno de los porta lápices improvisados que tenía, una lata de cerveza, pero desde ahora ya cuento con más espacio para mis herramientas. Me divertí mucho haciendo esta manualidad, y lo mejor es poder compartir con ustedes, espero que les haya gustado, si así fue no olviden comentar.
