Aquilegia flavescens - Little flowers that resemble a comet.
Every spring I have seen these flowers emerge and bloom. It took me until this year to finally id them thanks to my handy field guide. At first I thought this to be a Golden Columbine but in researching it appears that this is one of the more rare varieties of Columbine. Yellow Columbine is a mountain species that grows from British Columbia south to Oregon and east to the Rockies.
An unopened flower preparing to bloom. It has a semblance of a person with dreads flying in the wind or one of the weird deep sea creatures I have seen on NatGeo.
There have been numerous butterflies I have seen visiting the Columbine but every time I try to get a picture, they vanish. The butterflies have not been nearly as docile this year as prior. Last year I had a few instances of super chill butterflies, but have only had one so far this season. I have been doing what I can to create a perfect environment for the flowers to spread so I can try to fill in the area with their brightness. They sit beneath a large Chokecherry tree in our yard and have been increasing in volume/size each year.
It would be cool to find a bunch of seeds to spread around the farm.
