It was really warm yesterday morning, low 50s F thanks to the clouds and little bit of rain overnight. My body is still worse for wear and my back is giving me fits, the lower back around the hips is the worst. Heroic doses of Ibuprofen along with Womenzym and Flexiril are managing the pain for now and I am stretching often as much as possible.
I am slugging along on Duolingo everyday now for Spanish and the words are starting to stick in my craw. If anyone is on the app you can find me and add to friends. More accountability the better I think.
Once my back had mellowed some I headed out to keep cleaning the farm up for the incoming string of storms. The trampoline was the first major task after gathering a bunch of smaller things to the sheds and under cover. I am adamant about making sure it is taken down every winter in hopes of keeping it in good shape for a lot of years. Far too often I have seen people leave them out to get destroyed by snow load or get blown away. I have the frame locked down with stakes and the thing sits in an area that gets little wind so it has never even budged.
Once all the springs are off and in a bucket I fold the trampoline material up and store it in my old Toyota truck for the winter.
I pulled some of the marigolds that were mostly toasted and got a bunch of the tomatoes in a bucket. I have bags and wax boxes staged in the shed for today as I will be harvesting the celery and the chard before the 22F freeze tomorrow night.
I noticed the pile of old roofing lumber was spread out a lot and I piled it all into a more condensed pile which allows me space to drive past this winter so I can spread grain on the lower garden easily.
I picked the boys up from school then around 3:30 we headed to town. We stopped at work so the boys could trick or treat the offices. We then went out to an early dinner at Applebees.
Trunk or treats were setup all around the city, we drove by a bunch on our way to the one setup by the foundry union members down in Hillyard. On the way we stopped at Napa so I could get new brake pads for my truck as the clips are riding on the rotor. There were about a dozen cars setup at the church and the boys ended up with more than enough candy and Hot Wheels cars.
The giant pumpkin ate them up!
Thankfully we didn't walk for too long as my back was stabbing me often.
I was out soaking really early to try and mellow the muscles in my back. The boys both knocked out fast as the sugar likely wore off in a hurry.
Today is the beginning of NaNoWriMo and I have to get 1700 words cobbled together, it looks to be raining most of the day after getting .35" overnight, the celery and chard HAVE to get harvested, and the rest of the garden winterized once they have been picked.
This month looks to be a daily schedule of:
