When I try to explain Steemit to friends it goes something like this
"Ok you know facebook right? and reddit? Steemit is kind of a mix.
You can upvote people and others can upvote your content. But some votes are worth more....ahh you better sit down"
I touch on votingpower, SBD, reward pools and curation rewards.
Most people look at me strange and often I have the feeling they want me to shut up but they dont want to be rude as they feel that I am passionate about that Steamit? but are kind of intrigued.
Often enough I read how steemit will take over the whole social network space and you better sell your facebook stocks now as they will be worthless in a couple of months.
I get that we are all excited about steemit and its potential. But facebook fills for most of us a total different niche. Well...at least for me. I am chatting with my friends and yes I am aware that is not really private but it is sure as hell more private as here, for now at least.
While on reddit I go to the subreddit of my interest and open a thread and ask a question. On steemit this is quite difficult if I have no following but neverless I get some nice comments how informative my post was and how thankful this person is that I shared it.
I know...we are still in beta but seriously take a step back and take a look what we have here.
Andreas Antonopoulos answere the question what needs to happen that Bitcoin goes mainstream with 3 points.
There have to be a need for change
For most of us, the internet is free. We are not youtube creators. We produce light content like dancing kitties or laughing babies. For some it is a different story. You can read about facebook pages not really shutting down but not really visible anymore
the posts dont show up, videos on youtbe are taken down or burried. So yes, there is a need and this need probably will get bigger.
it has to be convenient
It is not soo inconvenient but signing up somewhere else is way easier. Here I get a bunch of numbers and letters I should watch out for and then a whole bunch of them. What do they do? How do I save them?
It also brings me back to the start of that ramble. I can describe facebook pretty easy. You get on there and see your friends tagging each other "that is so us lol" "omg I am dying" and you write some messages and brag about your last holiday. It is a social network you know what it is!
Searching something here is annoying also.
Yes...I know we are in Beta I mentioned that before.
And we still will be going places!

Ps.: I am fully aware that I did not mention the third point but I forgot it :-(
