Hoy me tocó llevar a mi hijo a Juan Griego para hacerle unos exámenes de laboratorio. Como estábamos en Playa El Agua, pensé “Bueno, mejor agarro el camino por Manzanillo y Pedro González, que es más rápido”. Y así mismo hice amigos, pero les cuento que no esperaba que ese paseo terminara siendo tan bonito.
Ese tramo entre Manzanillo y el municipio Gómez siempre me ha gustado, pero hoy lo sentí distinto. Apenas uno empieza a subir y bajar por esas montañitas, el mar se ve por todo el borde y aunque el sol no estaba tan fuerte, el cielo estaba espectacular y le daba un toque especial.
Está zona está súper árida ahorita, la sequía está pegando mucho en la isla, todo se ve sequito, los colores más claros, la tierra como tostada. Pero aun así tiene su encanto especial, es ese tipo de paisaje que te recuerda lo diversa que es nuestra isla, cómo cambia de un municipio a otro, cómo cada rincón tiene su personalidad.
Seguimos avanzando y llegamos al Mirador de Constanza, un punto donde uno no puede evitar detenerse un segundo, aunque sea mentalmente. Después seguimos hasta llegar cerca del hotel Hesperia en Pedro González y ya de ahí el camino se hace más conocido y uno siente que ya va llegando.
Fue un recorrido sencillo, nada del otro mundo, pero lleno de esos detalles que hacen que uno valore aún más el lugar donde vive. A veces, entre las carreras del día a día, olvidamos mirar alrededor y darnos cuenta de lo afortunados que somos de tener paisajes así tan cerca.
Bueno amigos solo quería compartirles este momento, porque sé que muchos conocen ese camino y otros tal vez hace tiempo no pasan por ahí. Y también porque, aunque la sequía esté fuerte, la isla sigue teniendo rincones que te regalan paz sin pedir nada a cambio.

Today I had to take my son to Juan Griego for some lab tests. Since we were in Playa El Agua, I thought, “Well, I’d better take the route through Manzanillo and Pedro González—it’s faster.” And that’s exactly what I did, friends, but I have to tell you I didn’t expect that drive to turn out to be so beautiful.
I’ve always liked that stretch between Manzanillo and the municipality of Gómez, but today it felt different. As soon as you start going up and down those little hills, you can see the sea all along the edge, and even though the sun wasn’t too strong, the sky was spectacular and gave it a special touch.
This area is extremely arid right now; the drought is really taking its toll on the island. Everything looks parched, the colors are paler, and the earth looks like toast. But even so, it has its own special charm. It’s the kind of landscape that reminds you just how diverse our island is, how it changes from one municipality to another, and how every corner has its own personality.
We kept going and arrived at the Constanza Lookout, a spot where you can’t help but stop for a second, even if just in your mind. Then we continued until we got close to the Hesperia Hotel in Pedro González, and from there the road becomes more familiar and you feel like you’re almost there.
It was an easy drive, nothing out of the ordinary, but full of those little details that make you appreciate the place where you live even more. Sometimes, in the rush of everyday life, we forget to look around and realize how lucky we are to have landscapes like this so close by.
Well, friends, I just wanted to share this moment with you, because I know many of you are familiar with that path, while others may not have been there in a while. And also because, even though the drought is severe, the island still has little corners that offer you peace without asking for anything in return.
