(Here is another snapshot from the balcony of our accommodation last weekend. Right next to the Watzmann (yesterday's photo), the Hochkalter towers into the sky. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe it is the second-highest mountain in the Berchtesgaden Alps.)
Hi Actifitters,
after reporting in yesterday's post on my training session immediately following lunch, I wanted to verify whether my elevated heart rate was indeed attributable to a full stomach. So, yesterday I selected the exact same route for my virtual cycling workout—but this time, I got into the saddle on an empty stomach.
To my surprise, I noticed that my heart rate behaved in a very similar manner. Thus, a full stomach is apparently not the reason. Naturally, however, one still feels a sense of sluggishness on a full stomach—for yesterday, I found it significantly easier to complete this route. This is also reflected in the training data. Here is a side-by-side comparison of the last two sessions (In the brackets are the numbers from the day before yesterday):
Duration - 1:01:56 (1:03:51)
Distance - 35.37 km (35.21 km)
Elevetaion gain - 157 m (157 m)
Average speed - 34.3 km/h (33.1 km/h)
Maximum speed - 55.9 km/h (54.4 km/h)
Average power output - 212 watts (185 watts)
Maximum power output - 624 watts (630 watts)
Average heart rate - 157 bpm (154 bpm)
Maximum heart rate - 189 bpm (182 bpm)
Average cadence - 89 (84)
Maximum cadence - 120 (115)
After training—albeit not for very long, but quite hard—over the last two days, I’m going to take a more relaxed approach today. I might even limit myself to core stability training. We’ll see...
