Greetings!
It's been awhile since I've shared bison photos here on Steemit, and today was a good day to pay them another visit. They were close... Very close. One even started licking the salt off of my truck, until I pulled forward. I didn't want her to get sick off road salt!
These two were quite attached to each other. After a few minutes of following them with the lens, they finally provided an interesting photo!
I finally got a shot of one's misty breath. The temperatures are well below freezing, and bison have a lot of hot air in them. This one was trying to create a cumulus cloud. She may have succeeded. As you can see, it's snowing. Again.
Besides being kind of funny, this images is sharp! Click on it for the full-screen and, if you take zoom in, you can see the amazing detail in the texture of her tongue!
Well, it's not the whole herd, but it's a good portion of them. Minneopa State Park, near Mankato, Minnesota, has around 20 genetically pure bison. The park, in collaboration with the Minnesota State Zoo, monitor the herd and allow for visitors to enter their large enclosure. The "Minnesota Safari," as I like to call it, is about three miles of gravel road with a cattle guard at each end. This keeps bison in and cows out, preserving the genetic purity of these amazing creatures.
