Buying Escalation and upgrading warriors.(En/Es).

Over the past few seasons, I’ve been keeping an eye on the market, looking for a good opportunity to add some warriors to my Modern battle deck. I’m interested in several cards from the Arcane Conclave set and the Escalation mini-set; for the Arcane Conclave set, I’m looking for a good price on the Archons or some epic and legendary cards. As for the Escalation mini-set, I’m gradually buying up the common and rare cards, with the goal of upgrading them to a level that’s somewhat interesting for battle.

This season, I took advantage of the good prices on some Escalation warriors and decided to buy the ones that caught my eye the most because of the abilities they gained. In total, I spent 3,180.82 DEC on five cards; one of them I didn’t already have.

Lady Stealthfire is my latest addition from the mini-set; I thought she’d be a good fit for my deck; she’s a ranged warrior with camouflage, and I’m particularly interested in having her at level three because of her armor-repair ability.

The following four warriors are the ones that level up thanks to the copies I bought. I’ll start with my common warrior, and the rest are rare warriors.

Blue Wyrm Travesty: I’ve been using this common warrior regularly in battle and was waiting for the chance to level him up to three. I wanted him at that level because of his ability to slow down the opponent’s warriors. This Undead warrior has good attack and vitality; with that ability added, he’s become one of my most-used warriors in the Water element.

Ashveil Tactician: This fire-element elf has no attack power of its own, but I have the option to pair it with the right card to give it some sort of attack, or to use it on its own. What I like about it is that I can use it based on either its element or its lineage; at level two, it has the ability to inspire and boost the melee attack power of its allies.

Earthwork Sentinel: This earth elemental doesn't have an attack either. What interested me was adding a strong unit with the ability to slow down the enemy's attack speed; I wanted to have this ability available in battles where I use the earth element.

Empusan Darkguard: Another earth-element warrior, a skilled opportunistic fighter with melee attacks. I was particularly struck by his Shadow Focus ability, which camouflages him when he’s in the back row and prevents him from attacking; however, it grants his allies a +1 power boost and the Resolve ability. I found it very interesting to use him in battle with this ability.

Note: The “Determined” ability activates when an attack misses, allowing you to make a second attack against the same opponent.

These are my first purchases in a while; the warriors I’m sharing in this post are the ones I decided to buy based on their abilities and the fact that I have Archons I can use with them. There are several warriors I’m interested in acquiring, but I have to be patient and wait for the right opportunity.

One thing I need to do is study those new abilities a bit; there are several I’m unfamiliar with, and I need to understand both their advantages and disadvantages in combination with the different battle rules.

For now, I’m just thinking about improving my deck for the Modern format, but I’ll start considering adding some cards from previous sets to participate in the Survival format and tournaments.
