It is not only North America and Russia that is being affected by the Grand Solar Minimum. Tokyo, the largest city in the world is now experiencing record low temperatures not seen in 48 years.
This coldspell occuring right now will last until Saturday and on Wednesday The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a very rare low temperature advisory for capital Tokyo as cold air started affecting the country.
On Thursday morning the city experienced temperatures of -4C (25 F). That might not sound cold for many northerners, but it was in fact the coldest temperature in 48 years for the big city.
In addition to this coldspell, Tokyo received a massive snowstorm on Monday causing about 700 traffic accidents and 800 reported injuries. By the end of the day, Tokyo got 23 cm (9 inches) as you can see from the image above.
