Comparisons can be drawn between the events that took place in the 1990s in Rwanda and in the Balkans, particularly in Bosnia. In both places ethnic cleansing occurred, and in both places the United Nations utterly failed in its efforts or lack thereof to stop massacres. Some people take the comparison a step further and say genocide took place in both Rwanda and Bosnia. Rwanda is a pretty clear-cut case, while Bosnia isn't, in my opinion.
While addressing the events of the 1990s but trying not to focus on them, I remark on how, simply put, Rwanda looks and feels a bit like Bosnia and how the Rwandan capital Kigali looks and feels a bit like the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.
