Well the rumors were true! Google has officially acquired part of HTC which mainly includes its hardware making department for 1.1 billion dollars. The division which has been acquired includes almost all the people who have previously worked on the Pixel phone last year and now they will be joining Google as their employees. This is a clear move by Google to get its own production team to lauch its own phones rather than outsourcing it to other companies as they have done in the past.
This deal also includes rights to HTC's 'non-exclusive' licenses. HTC will still continue making its own phones even after giving most of its talented employees to Google. This deal is a clear indication that Google is trying to launch its new phones like Apple does with the iPhone.
In previous years Google has also acquired Motorolla and now combined with the people from HTC they have all the necessary ingredients for giving competition to all the other big brands like Samsung and Sony.
Now we just need to wait for October 4 to see the new phones being released by Google and to see if they can compete with the likes of the Galaxy Note 8 or the iPhone X.
