If you would have to pick up a spot where you could run away anytime you feel like you need to put the life on pause, what would you choose?
Normally a lake won't be my answer but when there is a lake connected with the mountains, it definitely comes up on my list.
A lake has the power to carry you on the recesses of feelings which otherwise would be impenetrable, so just grab a beer and scroll down to discover together the story of
~Oașa Lake~
Oașa Lake is a man made lake hidden on Sureanu Mountains which you will meet on your trip to the famous Transalpina road that helps you discover the fascinating Romanian realms.
The lake is a water storage over the Sebeș River situated on the borders of Sibiu and Alba Counties, a lake that can't be neglected even though it's artificial.
The charming lake records some impressive sizes: 441ha surface with 136 mil. m3 water on the altitude of 1255m and it represents one of the most frequented places by tourists when they need to get lost in a very greenish place to relax.
If you are one of these guys who would prefer some activities in the nature rather than just relax, you have the opportunity to go on cycling, hiking, horse riding or even fishing as in the lake you will find trouts, chubs and some other tiny fishes.
The lake represents one of the most spectacular places connected with the nature which will welcome you with the relaxing trails through the mountains but also with lots of extremely beautiful landscapes.
Close to the lake you will meet people who spend most of their time here, preparing natural products with the help of the hives which are creating honey for tourists but also some other goodies like syrups, oil or just fresh mushrooms gathered from the forest.
Both of the sides that are surrounding the Oașa Lake can be crossed either while you are driving around or simply by taking a walk and admiring the beauty of the nature.
The lake is also known as one of the places from where many other trails to different touristic attractions are starting - so if you are going to visit this spot, take your time to also check out the following locations:
- Vârful lui Pătru - the highest peak of the Sureanu Mountains;
- Transalpina - also known as The King's Way represents one of the most fascinating roads surrounded by the wonderful mountains covered with a natural blanked of fir woods;
- Oaşa Monastery - a very relaxing and peaceful place;
- Luncile Prigoanei;
- The Heaven's Gate - a glade which has in project to open soon some ski slopes;
- Vârful Sureanu - yet another fascinating peak;
- and many more..
The scenic landscape also called "The Little Switzerland" represents one of the most heavenish locations from Romania which year by year gets the chance to welcome increasingly more tourists from all over the world, very curious to discover this piece of paradise.
This action can bring a lot of happiness to the locals who are looking forward to meet the new travelers and show the sights, but there is also a project going where are invested around 32 millions EUR to modernize the place for trippers.
If you are wondering where you could sleep while you are visiting the Oașa Lake, there aren't so many opportunities because the project is at the beginning of development but there are a few guest houses and chalets around the lake.
Anyway you can always place your tent nearby and camp or just ask for locators to let you stay for a night or two, they would be more than honored to help you out.
Now talking about the ways to get there, you will need to follow one the next routes depending on which side are you coming from:
- if you are coming from Sibiu: Salişte -> Tilişca -> Jina -> Şugag -> Oaşa;
- if you are coming from Brezoi: Brezoi -> Voineasa -> Oaşa;
- if you are coming from Ramincu Valcea: Horezu -> Novaci -> Oaşa;
