I'll admit it right now...I don't relate well to young people these days. Alright, those who know me well know I'm not a real people-person in general, not that I'm anti-social, I just feel people-phobic and very selective with whom I spend my time with...But young people? I don't get where there heads are at mostly. I don't understand them.
They use words like mad to indicate something is actually really good. Sick is also used to define something awesome. They say cray indicating crazy, which could mean crazy, or actually could mean good as well. Cray cray is the next level up from cray allegedly. And of course, keeping 100 deserves a mention. It apparently means keeping true to yourself. OK, so I recall these words differently. Mad means angry, sick means unwell, cray means crayfish, cray cray means TWO crayfish and keeping 100 means retaining the $100 note in your wallet. Something like that anyway.
You know I'm just messing around right? For the sake of this post. I'm not quite that old that I don't keep up with what's going on around me. Besides I'm of the X generation so...enough said. Millennials be like..."squad goal" but here's the thing millennials...You are millennials and can NEVER be X generation. That'll make you salty huh? FR (For real) :)
Occasionally though I meet someone who breaks the mould. A young person who shows qualities rare and unique. Rare and unique I say, but in reality shouldn't these qualities be the norm? I don't know, maybe I've lost touch with reality being the ancient 48 year old I am. I mean, what could I POSSIBLY know that a millennial doesn't know? How could I ever think that my 48 years of life could come close to gaining me the knowledge a millennial has gained in some 19 years?
I spoke with a young person the other day and again last night. The person showed a remarkable understanding of life, a caring nature (caring for other's not just themselves) and the ability to listen, understand and seek more knowledge...A great deal of courtesy too. I know this person reasonably well and I'm not surprised of course. I'm not sure where this understanding comes from, the ability to listen to and absorb information and to converse with such maturity and balance. I think maybe the parents have something to do with it, and life-circumstances as well. However above all of that I believe the person is simply built that way. No matter what it is though, it was enough to make me want to engage, converse and discuss with them and that's rare. Not just from the age perspective, but from the people perspective as well.
So, despite the opening to this post I don't not like young people and if you read it that way you're completely totally and utterly incorrect. Just making it clear. I just don't value them. Yes, yes I know they are our future, the future of the world and kids will be kids but well, at 20-25 years old is someone still a kid or an adult and shouldn't their behaviour reflect that? Anyway, people progress at different rates and are, in fact, different people intrinsically of course; Not everyone will grow up to be Albert Einstein or Mother Teresa...For the millennials reading this Albert Einstein invented internet emoji's and Mother Teresa is Kim Kardashians mum...
So, my point? My point is that to judge a person based on other people around them may not bring a true and correct reading. We are quick to judge, especially the younger generations. They judge the older through their hubris and ego and seem (generally) incapable of stopping to ponder or consider the life-experience of an older person and the benefits of it. Those of the older generations also judge, the younger. But it's done (generally) with the perspective gained through experience of life and is softer, more understanding. (Again, generally).
Digging up rarity in a younger person feels good in a world where individual thought is frowned upon and seemingly bred out of a person through social media, government and corporation propaganda. It's refreshing to meet and engage with ANYONE with a supple mind, interesting and original views and a reflective mind. It's refreshing and rare.
