Otaku:
Taken from the word 'taku'(home) in Japanese.
Usually used in a negative way in the sense of saying someone is unsociable and spends their life wasted away at home, gaming or surfing the net.
But...
how it is seen by me and Anime fanatics, is as a word that describes how involved and absorbed we have become in this fine Japanese art work that has been around since the 1940's.
The first sets of Anime released where actually propaganda films produced during world war II, then in the 1970's as Anime developed further, it separated from its western roots and started developing distinct genre's such as Mecha and Super Robot.
In the 1980's Anime was accepted into the Japanese 'Mainstream' and started mass producing. Anime that started then and are still produced today are stories such as Dragon ball and Naruto all tho they may have change forms and names they still have the same art style of the original 1980's and 90's productions.
Dragon Ball back then
Dragon Ball now

Anyone that's seen Anime usually falls in love with it.
When people tell me it's rubbish or a waste of time i'm like...
My personal favorites are usually in the genre of adventure, gaming, horror, slice of life, school, shonin and survival games, but the amounts of genres are practically infinite.
P.s- If you're ever in need of Anime...
