US, like the other developed countries, has effectively eliminated measles with widespread immunization schemes. This achievement has been jeopardized by growing vaccine hesitancy and non-medical exemptions mostly due to misinformation in recent years.
According to results published in JAMA Pediatrics, a mere 5% decrease in measles-mumps-and-rubella (MMR) vaccination rates among kids aged 2 to 11 years would triple measles cases in this age group and cost $2.1 million in public healthcare costs.
