It was nearly six o clock when John finally finished. He looked up for the first time in hours, and checked the time. He realized that everyone had left already and was shocked to see that it was nearly eight o'clock. He noticed that Julian never made it back to the office after lunch, but didn't worry too much, as he knew that she'd have a good excuse. At least he was able to finish his proposal that he'd been struggling to finish for weeks now.
He closed his laptop and packed up his stuff. He was totally ravenous. The few cups of coffee he drank was definitely not enough to sustain him through the day. He took his jacket and was just about to leave when he saw Julian standing in the doorway at the other end of the office.
He called her name, but she wasn't there anymore. He quickly grabbed his stuff and walked towards the door. There was no one there, but he picked up the faint smell of her perfume.
"Where did she go?"
Perhaps he was overly tired and he was just imagining things.
"But he could have sworn...."
He was lucky to find a cab quickly and he gave the driver his address. They arrived in front of his apartment block just before nine. He was relieved to be at home. He ordered a double order of his favorite Chinese food, and then stepped into the shower. The coldness of the ceramic tiles, gave him a little chill, but he opened the shower and the warm water trickled down his back.
He felt so much more relaxed when he got out of the shower, and was still busy drying his hair with his towel, when the doorbell rang. He wrapped the towel around him, grabbed his wallet from the kitchen table and went to open the door. He paid the delivery guy and within seconds he was on the couch ready to eat. He ate like he was in starvation and switched on the television.
He couldn't find anything interesting to watch, and finally settled for one of his old time favorites. He dressed in a pair of boxers and an old T-shirt and snuggled up with a blanket in front of the television.
He must have fallen asleep, but was awakened by an annoying knock on the door. He tried to ignore it, and turned around to go back to sleep. The knocking didn't stop and he reluctantly got up to open the door.
He was startled when he opened the door, and found no one outside.
He closed the door, and in the gush of wind he could smell her perfume...
Very puzzled, he walked to his room...
