As we try to improve ourselves and our family, it is vitally important to remember that the Lord our faithful and wise creator wants us to have joy and happiness in life. One of Satan's most effective weapons is discouragement. Sometimes in our efforts to improve we forget that change and development take time. We cannot expect overnight perfection, either our own, or that of family members.
Enjoying our family is one of the joys we must recognize. Although creating a loving and harmonious environment within the family circle is not always easy, it is very important, especially in these days when both our children and ourselves have to face the evil influence that surrounds us. Everyone in this life has problems and we must decide what to do. We, as well as our children, hear voices that try to divert us from the principles of the gospel and the wise counsel of the General Authorities.
But if we make our home a safe place, it will be easier for us to develop and grow in righteousness. Making our precious home a heaven and ideal family ties requires much more than just being active in the church and participating in its programs, no matter how important they are. It takes a strong and sincere desire to live and teach the principles of the gospel in our home.
Many couples feel unprepared when faced with the problems of marriage and parenthood. Many worry about the worldly temptations that not only they, but also their children, have to face on a daily basis. Many parents already take it for granted that their children have gone astray. Fortunately, we do not need to face the problems alone because our Lord God the Creator wants us to be successful not only in marriage or as individuals but in the different aspects of our precious life.
