Make This Independence Day Weekend Unforgettable.
An Unexpected Evening
Yesterday I watched a movie that a close friend with a big heart suggested. It's a romantic drama.
I am not into romantic drama.
Or so I thought.
After procrastinating for weeks, I finally cued up the video to watch the movie, because I promised Jane that I would. And when she recommends a book or a movie, my curiosity eventually wins.
Some day it is a book that I would never have read without her. Other times, it's the most amazing song that has 7 views on YouTube before it becomes a hit. This time, it was this movie she recommended.
It has had me glued to the screen. I was still watching, even as the last words of the melody reverberated through the closing credits... I had watched with tears in my eyes. I was sobbing throughout the film. Through its 21/2 hours - to the end.
I found myself emerged into a fascinating story of peace and war, love and hate, of life and death, of compassion and brutality, of goodness and of evil.
It is remarkable that I came to watch this cinematic master piece on the eve of a long Independence Day weekend. The American Civil war cost much blood. On both sides. They were people with good intentions and differing views on both sides.
These people, that's US today.
A Movie Quote
Here is a quote from Ruby, one of the principal characters in the movie.
A word for those who scheming for war in Syria, Russia and elsewhere.
A special warning to those who are aching for civil war in western societies and to those who wish to force their political view, ideology and lifestyle on others:
Ruby: Every piece of this is man's bullshit. They call this war a cloud over the land. But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say 'Shit, it's raining!'
Be careful what you wish for, then!
A Gift For You and Your Loved Ones
Let this movie then be a gift for you today! Let it be a gift for all men, women and children of any belief system, wherever in the world. Let this movie serve as a reminder of the merciless brutality of war and of the cost of blood and.
Let it be also a reminder of the warmth of love, of people who honor God, of their families and friends.
Above all, let it be a reminder of the generations that fought for our freedom and way of life - who sacrificed their own lives for us. It is shameful to forget, even dishonor their sacrifice.
Let us thank those who rest in unmarked graves in the valleys of cold mountains, silently whispering: You are welcome!
Here are two excerpts:
The Movie begins with a monologue:
Ada: "Dear Mr. Inman, I began by counting the days, then the months. I don't count on anything anymore except the hope that you will return, and the silent fear that in the years since we saw each other, this war, this awful war, will have changed us both beyond all reckoning."
