Happy New Year lovely creatives, I am super excited to have made it to a new year, and I'm sure you are as well, so I'm wishing everyone the best of their heart desires this year, and may all your dreams come to reality.
One thing I'm focused on for the new year is making the best of every opportunity and project I'm faced with, which also includes less wastage and more productivity. Last year, I shared the making process of this dress I made for a good friend of mine here,
after making the dress, there were some leftover pieces of the ankara fabric, and I thought to make a beautiful and unique dress for her daughter, so they could have matching mother and daughter outfits, of course, the leftover fabric pieces won't be enough, so I combined It with a white light crepe fabric after getting inspired by a similar dress I saw on Pinterest.
Without further ado, I will be sharing with us the making process of this pretty dress,
Materials used
Ankara fabric
light crepe fabric
Zipper
Matching thread
Lining Fabric
Cutting and sewing process
Step 1
I started by drafting the dress pattern on a pattern paper
Step 2
back
front
Next, I transferred the paper pattern to the crepe and ankara fabric the way I wanted them combined, the crepe above and the ankara fabric from the under bust to the hip area
Step 3
Continuing, I joined the front
pattern together and also joined the back, attaching a zipper to the back area
Step 4
I joined both front and back together by the sides and I measured around the hem of the dress and cut out the length remaining to complete the dress, also tripling the hem measurement, I gathered and sewed it around the hem of the dress.
Step 5
The sleeves I made for this dress are called Gigot sleeves, it's like a long flare sleeve pattern, gathered and attached to the cuff of the sleeves, here is how the pattern looks
Step 6
Finally, here is the final look after attaching the sleeves to the dress
What would have turned out to be a waste of fabric turned into a beautiful dress, and I made mother and daughter happy with their new dresses.
What do do think of this dress design, will you rock a dress like this for the ladies? Do let me know what you think.
