Good day dear Friends in the Black And White Community 🙌📸
During a trip to the Karlovac region, I visited the town of Žakanje for the second time. This time I also heard the story of a priest and his sad fate. Priest Ivan Matski Stanković was a well-known person in this area, a beloved person, hardworking and dedicated. He was born in 1886 in Žakanje. He was educated in Karlovac and Zagreb, and was ordained a priest in 1910. He was known as a diligent and educated priest who decorated churches and chapels, organized people's missions, and was involved in literary work, fruit growing, and viticulture. He was remembered by the people as a man devoted to faith, work, and his people. However, he tragically died on September 11, 1947, when he was murdered in the parish church in Vrhovec. He was killed without trial, and his death is considered one of the many persecutions of priests after World War II. He was buried in his native parish in Žakanj, where in 2017 a memorial was erected for him at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which I present to you today with photos.
So, let's go see together but first
