Have you ever imagined the easiest way to be injured or dead? Are you aware that injuries and deaths occur more in the home than on the road or any other place?
I recently conducted a research where I live and the result revealed that ALL the respondents (18 years & above) had experienced diverse kinds of accidents in their homes. Meanwhile, a good number of them had never experienced an accident on the road or at their workplaces.
Ideally, the home is supposed to be a place of comfort and security but can also be a place of danger if necessary precautions are neglected.
Just like any other form of accident, home accidents occur mainly due to human error - failure to do the right thing (negligence).
Sadly, children and the elderly are the most vulnerable.
Consider these simple tasks:
- Replacing a dead light bulb
- Clearing the walkway
- Mopping the wet floor
- Repairing a faulty electrical appliance
- Washing the hands before eating
- Keeping sharp objects in proper places
- Keeping medicines, hot/dangerous objects out of the reach of children
- Keeping inflammable items away from ignition sources such as hot surfaces, electricity, flames, or smoke.
These are simple things, right? But failure to do them has led some to their graves while some live with scars or permanent disability.
The bathroom and kitchen are the most dangerous rooms in the house. You need to pay more attention to safety rules while in these places.
Preventing an accident is very easy if only you consider the consequences of allowing it to occur.
Remember, prevention is not only better but also cheaper than cure.
Always short and simple!
