Yesterday I made a post about my Adventures of Mr Golden D's Last Minute Stay-Cation and how we spent a day hiking in a local state game park and some things I foraged there.
One of the flowers I foraged was red clover. I knew this little flower that most people view as a nuisance and weed HAS some great medicinal properties and uses; and recently I was watching some YT videos about this weed and learned it can be considered Mother Nature's Mutli-Vitamin because of all the fabulous healing and therapeutic uses.
I have so many ideas in mind to using the red clover for an overall health benefit; and with my goal of becoming medication free on this homestead, I have broken down the possible reasons for utilizing red clover.
- Mr Golden D has high blood pressure and dabbles with high cholesterol sometimes
- I have digestive and stomach issues
- I am in the early stages of full menopause and looking for ways of controlling/diminishing symptoms
- Being in menopause I have concerns about bone deterioration
Uses For Red Clover
- Lowering cholesterol
- Symptoms of menopause (controlling hot flashes, breast pain or tenderness (mastalgia); and for premenstrual syndrome
- Cancer prevention
- Indigestion
- Whooping cough
- Breathing problems (asthma, bronchitis)
- Skin sores, burns, and chronic skin diseases-including eczema and psoriasis.
- Helps with osteoporosis
Menopausal Natural Herbal Tea Mixture
I discovered this recipe years ago when I had borrowed a book from the library- Rosemary Gladstar recipe- and must have had a premonition feeling because I wrote the recipe down in my notebook.
- 1 part dried Motherwort
- 1 part dried lemon balm
- 1 part dried sage leaf
- 1 parts dried red clover (flowers)
Make your herbal tea by steeping the above herbs and flowers. You can drink this up to three times per day
Red Clover Tincture
Using the same combination of parts in the above mentioned recipe for tea, put the four dried herbs and flowers into a glass jar and cover the dried leaves/flowers with 80% alcohol (gin, vodka or rum) leaving about an inch of space between the liquid, herbs and lid of the jar.
Leave in a darkened cupboard and make sure to shake the glass jar every other day. Let sit in cupboard for 5-6 weeks. Strain the liquid from the herbs/flowers. Toss the herbs/flowers and keep the liquid stored in a brown (or other dark colored) glass jar or bottle.
To use tincture- Take 1/4-1/2 teaspoon daily. Take for three to five days then stop taking for one to three days. Repeat.
Salves & Infused-Oil Recipes
On this website for homemade red clover salve and infused-oil, I figured this may be a great idea to have some of this salve around the homestead; especially during the long, dry winters around here. It (salve) seems to be prefect to have handy for dry skin and cracked fingertips from working outside in the cold winter time.
