Over the last seven months I have come across many steemit personalities and have seen so many newbies flourish, some leave after a short time but yet others develop his or her routine and have committed to not only their own success, but also the advancement and success of the steemit platform. So today I wanted to share some of the personalities I have found here; keeping in mind these people can be found in every day life too.
Un-Social Butterfly Vs. Social Bumble Bee
I have always been an introvert; whether a homebody, shy or the proverbial wall flower when in public places or at social events. So when the opportunity came about among all the social networks and websites, I was able to blossom and thrive online; which further allowed me to come out of my shell. I have implanted myself in many aspects of steemit, all without having to leave the comfort of my home and office. I have been fortunate to make friends here, establish my career and become a small part of many dedicated communities.
I have witnessed many people who are naturally capable of making friends, flutter and twirl their way around the platform becoming a steadfast anchor in many areas. Some days I wish I had that ability; but have found my own rhythm of working, writing, communicating and interacting.
Which are you? A social bumble bee? Or an un social butterfly? Has steemit been able to change your personality characteristics?
Beggars Vs. Choosers
Beggars
All too often we see many new members commenting with follow me/follow you and good post replies. Does this really do any good? In my steemit experience it is an astounding no. If anything, it hampers your credibility, reputation and could possibly start getting the commentator some flags and down votes. Now when you're starting out on steemit, your reputation is all you have. You have to work hard to build up the number. You have to be diligent and make quality posts. You have to be consistent and dedicated. So when you post the above mentioned comments, think of the harm you are self-inflicting.
Choosers
I may have been guilty of making simple and quick comments (drive-by comments) in the VERY early stage of my steemit life, but knowing how to write and reply with my writing and blogging background, I quickly changed the mentality and started making real comments with substance.
So I chose to become the steemian I am today.
Do you choose to make quick comments? Do you choose to let quick begging like comments go unanswered in your posts? How do you handle the steemians leaving comments in your post just to make a comment?
I have seen some posters asking the person to stop, forewarning the person of potential negativity and even, at times, being downright rude. I have done none of the above to date. But will there come a day when I do speak up? Perhaps... but I am a person who is generally easygoing and avoids drama as much as possible.
What about you? Do you ask the person to stop, explain why they need to stop? Or do you go off on them?
Pay It Forward Or No Return
Do you pay it forward? Or are you constantly seeking someone to give to you? Yes... there are people out there that will take... take... take and never look back.
I have witnessed it. I have seen it. I have empathy not only for the people who were taken advantage of, but also the person doing the taking. Good human nature is to give back. Bad human nature is to hurt others.
I am always on the lookout for supporting the so-called underdog. Sometimes I see the underlying shyness in other people (probably because I can relate to this social insecurity) and I root for them. I will nudge them. I will support them. I remember coming out of my shell and if I can give that feeling to another person, then I will.
The underdog is not a person seeking to take; they accept the assistance with gratefulness and will one day give back themselves. This is a human nature blockchain; similar to steemit's blockchain and how whales and dolphins have been paying it forward with his or her delegations to advance the platform.
So which are you? How have you paid it forward and given back to others here on steemit?
I won't ask people to share their stories off taking, as that's not a positive way of behaving; but if someone really wants to share, this is an open door post.
