Amaryllis budded for the 4th time this year
On Wednesday the appointment I was to have was cancelled. I’d gotten laundry started and finished washing and drying it but that was all I got done. I took a day off as it rained all morning.
On Thursday I had a wicked busy day as there was a deep frost coming on Thursday night and I had to harvest what I could.
I was out at 8AM in the cold to harvest the last of the lima beans. I got a decent amount. I was to have someone come to swap out the headset for my phone at 9AM so when I got a knock at the door, I told them to come in.
But it wasn’t the headset guy but the propane delivery guy. He filled the tank for the year. Ouch!
I had harvested the last of the Walla onions. They would be prepped for Tom’s family.
I had seen another split cabbage out in the Big garden so I set up to make a batch of sauerkraut. I left it in the garden until my helper friend got far enough along to harvest it.
I set up to process the lima beans and to chop the onions for freezing.
The headset guy finally arrived and we got it changed out. It’s not as good as my old one but will work, I hope. It has a much shorter cord, to start with.
I had set up to watch ‘The Legend of Bagger Vance’, a Redford directed movie, while I shelled lima beans. So I sat down to start that while I waited for my helper friend to arrive at 11:30AM.
He started on the onions but discovered that most of them had started to go bad. He only got 4 cups chopped for Tom.
He went out and harvested the split cabbage. We got 7.2 lbs from that one. He got it chopped and packed in the jars. I put it in the pantry to ferment.
Once that was done, I worked up an order and sent him shopping. I went back to the lima beans. I saw a white truck pull in and thought it was the contractor. He wasn’t due back until next week. So I went out to the kitchen to see what was up and it was my helper friend back from shopping. I’d forgotten he’d gone. Brainfog, you gotta love it…NOT!
So we put away the shopping and he left. I’d just sat down again to the beans, when my contractor did show up. He was concerned about the seams in the exposed wood and the coming rain over the weekend. He was nearby and decided to cover them.
I went back to the lima beans and finally finished shelling them.
I got 2½ more meals. It’s to drop into the upper 20’s during the night so I pulled the shades just as the sun went down to try to hold some heat. I didn’t want to light stoves if I didn’t have to.
My helper friend had gotten ‘The Candidate’ from the library when he was out and I watched that in the evening. I got a couple more old posts saved and was in bed by 8PM.
I was just falling asleep when I realized I hadn’t brought the fairy in. She was bound to have water in her from the rain and at 28F she would crack. So I ran out and brought her in and went back to bed.
On Friday my helper friend will be here early at 8AM. I want to get the house plants watered, take the squash to the root cellar, and he has a couple errands to do.
