On Friday morning, it was cold outside when I got up at 5AM. So I got my post up, cleaned up the kitchen, made the milk order, and puttered around. I finally got out to the garden by 10AM.
First I had to finish the mulching up to the posts for the last fence. Then I tried putting the fence up by myself. It’s not as tight or straight as if I had help but it’s done.
I broadforked the row and decided to take a break and make some lunch as my #3 helper would be here at 12:30PM.
When she arrived, she raked the row smooth and we both planted the last row of green peas. Then we got it mulched.
I had messed up the garden layout with the very first row, and the volunteer mesclun bed didn’t help. So the next thing we did was straighten that area out on the south end of the garden.
Once that was done we could lay out the north end and be done with it.
We moved onto the Small garden and got it laid out but ran out of stakes. My contractor had brought me a bundle of sticks and I’d stored them in the garden shed. I didn’t know how I’d use them, but they sure came in handy when we needed markers. We did break them down to marker size but not all of them. I still have a good many left.

We cleaned up and I got my photos and notes. I was wiped out but she ran the vacuum around the first floor for me before she had to go.
When she left I got a shower and made some supper. I’d decided to watch all my Audrey Hepburn movies, so next up was ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’.
I’d just finished it when my #1 intern came back from her run. I decided to set up as much as I could for butter making as she didn’t have a lot of time in the morning.
Just as I finished that, Tom arrived with the cream, so I decanted it into ½ gallon jars so warming up in the morning wouldn’t take so long. I finally made it to bed around 9:15PM, but didn’t get to sleep until 10:30PM. Too much chaos before bedtime, I guess.
On Saturday I have to be up by 5AM to start the cream warming up and to clean up the kitchen in preparation for butter making. I’ll probably end up cleaning the kitchen afterwards too. Once that’s done, I have to go mow for 4 hours. That ought to finish me off well.
