On Wednesday morning I was up around 6AM, got the cat fed and checked e-mail. Then at 7AM I headed out to start mowing. Fortunately there was very little dew as it had been quite windy.
The little mower pulled its antic of not starting after the first dumping of the bagger. So I just mowed on the rider for a while until the push mower cooled down and was able to finish the trim work. Then back on the rider and the yard was done by 9:30AM.
So I headed to the barn to mow that area for the first time this year. I finished around 10:30AM.
As I came back from the barn mowing, the trees looked so nice. So I got my camera and got some photos of them. The rain had been forecast to start at 11AM so that’s why the early start.
I got a couple more photos and went inside. I was so exhausted I didn’t even shower, just had some lunch and went to bed and slept 4 hours.
When I got up I decided the watch ‘Bridges of Madison County’, a favorite of mine. I was in bed by 8:45PM.
On Thursday I wasn’t moving too fast. I had a kitchen disaster to clean up, laundry to do, and several small projects to finish. I also needed to take a thorough shower! At 10:30AM a person was coming to evaluate the house and appliances for fuel assistance. I was looking to learn about heat pumps for the house, particularly for cooling.
I managed to finish the kitchen with help from my #4 helper, get the laundry started, and spent 2½ hours with the FA person. It looks like I will get 2 new AC units as the heat pump assessment and installation won’t happen before autumn. I can get 2 new freezers now, but they are smaller than the ones I have now.
If I can get the 3 freezers at the barn started and filled, then she will come back and test them and maybe replace them. The ancient dehumidifier for the cellar will be replaced. The only thing they aren’t going to do, because the job is too small, is replace the weatherstripping on the 2 back doors. That was the only thing she found for the house proper.
She left just before 1PM and my #4 helper was late due to road construction and didn’t get here until 1:45PM. We got started on the seedlings after cleaning up the kitchen.
I hadn’t had time or energy to check on what had come up from Saturday’s starting. It turns out a lot of stuff had, and some had gotten leggy. I also had ones that were too tall for the lights and needed to go to the cold frame. Those trays had to be leveled as they went out so they could be properly watered.
We hadn’t gotten much rain during the night and the seedlings in the cold frame were much too dry. So once we got the ones moved out of the house, we fed them all until they were soaked.
Then we went inside and fed or watered all the rest of the seedlings. By the time that was done, I was wiped out and had to sit down. She vacuumed the first floor before she left at 5:45PM.
I made some supper and sat down to watch ‘Alice in Wonderland’ but only made it through half of it. I got the shades pulled, asked my son to light the fire in the office as it was to drop to 40F during the night, and went to bed at 8:15PM.
On Friday, I need to finish the laundry, get the house plants watered, and I’m hoping my #3 helper who comes at 12:30PM can help put up pea fences.
