On Tuesday morning I was up at 4:30AM and got the stoves going well. The temperature was 1F outside. I got my post up, finished the laundry, cleaned up the kitchen and then started planning for making chicken bone stock.
I can get 3.33 lbs of carcasses and the rest of the ingredients in one of the 18 qt roasters. On Thursday I planned to have both roasters going. So I had to figure out what I needed for ingredients and how much of them I had in stock or needed to buy.
I decided to figure out all the batches and how much I needed. So that’s what I did for about an hour.
My helper friend arrived at 9:30AM before I had finished so he did some chores. Once I knew what I needed, I sent him off to the stores to shop. I got a shower and puttered around until he got back.
I wanted him to make me grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch but the cheese was still in the freezer. So I went down and got that and the smallest of the carcasses at 6.69 lbs. That went into the spare fridge to start thawing.
Once he had left, I sat and read Christmas books and tended stoves all afternoon.
It wasn’t to be as cold Tuesday night, low 20’sF, but I made sure the stoves were going well before heading to bed at 8PM.
On Wednesday I have exercise class and a bunch of phone calls to make and odds and ends to finish up, like thawing the carcasses. It’s to be cloudy and warmer, in the upper 30’s and then rain all afternoon. That will make a sloppy mess for those who have to be out in it. Me, I’ll be inside where it’s warm and dry, and either watching Christmas movies or reading Christmas books.
