I used to collect stuff like this. It happens all over Asia and I actually quite enjoy the fact that the clothing and the statements that are made on it are either completely inappropriate for the wearer or doesn't really make sense. I have no idea if this is done intentionally or accidentally, but I think it is hilarious.
It came to my attention one day when a gardener where in some villas was wearing a shirt with a very cryptic origin. I was thinking to myself "i can't believe this guy has that! I love that shirt"
Now in order for this guy to understand what he was wearing he would have to be familiar with the Saturday Night Live skits with Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek and primarily Darrel Hammond as Sean Connery. I asked the gardener if he knew what it was and he said "oh, this is just a shirt."
I am quite certain there are westerners running around with Chinese or Japanese symbols on their clothing that also have no idea what it says. Hopefully not something offensive.
it might just be punk rock, i dunno, but i think it is funny
although I don't think it belongs on a 7-year old, there have been multiple instances in my life where I could definitely identify with the statement on this one
of course this isn't the kid's fault, but I wonder if the parents have any idea
this last one is the style you are most likely to encounter in Thailand, something that is nearly correct, but has made some crucial error in the message - these are the ones I search for and they are for sale many times in places whose corporate structure would probably be able to detect the error such as Tesco - this leads me to believe that it is in fact intentional.
There are entire websites dedicated to this sort of phenomenon and it isn't restricted to clothing. The site is called Engrish.com and it is really worth a look if you are bored one day. Maybe everyone out there doesn't spend as much time looking at stupid S**T online as i do.
I don't need to go there because I can see it just in my everyday life by simply walking around. Do you have any examples of poorly worded slogans on clothing? Keep in family-friendly (no more racy than the "Cat Shit" one) and I will reward you accordingly.
Please do not assume that I am trying to say anything negative about Asian people, learning another language is extremely difficult and I can first-hand relate to how hard it is
