I found this on a list of movies that not very many people have seen but are great films - or something along those lines. I have watched 3 of these films already and well, i guess this one was the least bad of the bunch - but that isn't saying much.
Nick Cage plays Michael Williams, a transient worker of sorts who rolls into town in Red Rock, Wyoming and accidentally uncovers a police conspiracy immediately upon arriving. You see, Nick has been mistaken as a contract killer that we have to presume was arranged by some prior means but they don't know what the actual person looks like and Midhael Williams is just a victim of circumstance. This leads to what I believe is the only reason why this movie is even reasonably ok.
The actual contract killer is "Lyle from Dallas" and is wonderfully played by Dennis Hopper, who I think is definitely the star of this movie. His portrayal of an unhinged contract killer with a quick wit and lack of compassion for really anyone around him, is spot on. I was about to turn the movie off until he appeared on the scene.
I suppose this movie can be considered decent but I cant help but feel that the film was included on the particular list that i found it on because of the fact that shortly after this movie was released Cage went on to make a dozen or so films a year, most of which were garbage (obviously, I am exaggerating, but hopefully you get the point.)
This trailer is pretty poorly produced but to be fair I might just have forgotten what all trailers looked like in the early 90's.
I can't recommend this film unless you want to see Dennis Hopper do something good. Mostly while I was watching this i kept wondering how it is that Nick Cage continues to make money as an actor.
