I have a lot of love for Southpark but i will be one of the first people to admit that the episodes are very... hit and miss with lately being mostly "miss." That doesn't change the fact that it is a fantastic adult cartoon series and I was really excited to see that it had popped up on my Netflix page a few days ago.
Despite the fact that Southpark has actually attacked Netflix on more than one occasion inside of their episodes most notably one called “Franchise Prequel" where Trey and Matt (the creators of SouthPark) made fun of Netflix for giving the "green-light" for nearly anything related to super-heroes, Netflix now has Southpark series on their own service. But there is a catch.
The catch is that not all of the episodes are actually available on Netflix, but rather just 4 seasons and also a "best of" series that....to be honest, is actually pretty good. I personally was surprised to see that the episode that makes fun of Netflix, is actually one of the ones that is available on Netflix. I suppose we should give them a few "bro-points" for taking that one on the chin.
For me, I have seen most of these already and Southpark after more than 20 seasons, is actually kind of wearing thin on me. However, sometimes Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem to be the only people in the United States with the guts to take on hot-topic issues, sometimes with pinpoint accuracy.
For example: The Tron / Facebook episode entitled "You have 0 Friends" is just an amazing piece of cartoon representing an absurd (or is it?) version of real life and they mixed it in with a beloved (at least for me and other nerds my age) movie that most people are vaguely familiar with. It was perfect.
However, for every "You have 0 friends" there are about 6 "kinda lame" episodes that mostly just focus on Cartman being a jerk to everyone and well, that is nothing new.. Whatever... it can't be easy coming up with stuff every week, day in and day out.
The point of all this was that Soutpark being added to Netflix is definitely a good thing and I am happy it is there... especially the "best of " series that they feature. The only downside is the fact that other than that they are very limited in their offerings as they only have season 1 and then seasons 18-21.
Southpark is currently in season 22 and obviously Comedy Central is going to keep that stuff private on their own network before they sell them to Netflix or anyone else... after all there are only 2 shows on Comedy Central and this is one of them.
On a final note it is kind of funny to me that trolling happens not just with individuals, or even political people like Trump, but also with giant corporations: Amazon Prime has all 21 seasons in their library and took the opportunity to hit Twitter with this scathing meme to celebrate Netflix getting Southpark in their library as well.
